Sum up of the chapter (made by basing myself on the novel):

The enemies' first line sent to take care of the "crumbling wall" have been ambushed in the previous chapter when the said "wall" fell down. Some enemies are now crushed by the rocks. The rest now have to deal with the said "rocks" or more exactly "rock golems" made by Vandalieu. Usually those golems wouldn't be too much of a problem for an army however they got ambushed so they are currently a little bit too panicked. Gordan, the High Priest, manages to rally them and calm them.

But it's just the first defensive measure prepared by Vandalieu so the second attack begins: A volley of arrows, soon followed by large rocks showing that Vandalieu has some siege weapons (catapult or trebuchets). Reminder: Siege weapons are only available if you have some technicians to built them and countries used to "keep" those under heavy surveillance. So of course, this worries Chezare, the second in command who demands to know what they're fighting against. A large number of archers + siege weapons... However Mauvid, the general, doesn't know anything either. In order to limit the casualties, Chezare's going to order a retreat but the "mercenaries" interfere, pointing out that the soldiers wouldn't be able to properly retreat in such chaos so they should instead push forward and regain their formation. In order to show his worth to the vampires/"mercenaries", Mauvid agrees and orders all forces to attack.

However it's a bad decision as Vandalieu now uses what he had prepared for them. Using the trebuchets, he sends some barrels of liquid. The enemies don't really know what liquid it's and continue pushing forward until they realize that they have been poisoned. Or at least they think that they're dealing with poison. So they start to drink antidotes, to use magic to remove the poison... but nothing works until Gordan understands that it's a poison, it's a disease. Thanks to this, he manages to heal himself and gives the information to the rest of the army... but... he soon fall sick once again. After all, you can't gain any immunity against this disease that Vandalieu created. Sadly, the said disease isn't lethal.

Isla and her group of vampires also stand out now as they aren't affected. It would be possible to find a few people with a "Disease Immunity skill" or something similar... but a whole group? No. Seeing this & that the army is now useless, Isla decides to go all out. No need to hide themselves any longer so they fly toward Vandalieu, revealing their true nature as vampires to the rest of the army. However Vandalieu already knew that they would be here so he already prepared a "gift" to welcome them: He repaired the city's mercury mirrors. Using them, the Ghouls are now able to launch some very powerful light magic on the vampires, burning them to ash as soon as they're touched. No way to block it. The few who manage to survive, fall to the ground and are quickly killed by their previous "allies" who believe they're here to help Vandalieu. And as Isla finally manages to reach Talosheim's wall, she meets Eleanora who greets her with a "Perfect weather for sunbathing, isn’t it?". Oh, by the way Eleanora has also now gained an immunity against the sun and the light.

As for the rest of the now weakened army... Well, too bad for them: The ghouls were standing under them. So as soon as Vandalieu gives his signal, they emerges from their tunnels and ambush the enemies' forces.
