According to the WN, the harpies were upset because in battle they could not hold proper weapons. SO instead they would be assigned to drop garbage and filth on the enemies. Therefore the humans called them shit birds. And, seeing how they are a very clean race, this was SUPER OFFENSIVE! So shes been pestering him to develop a weapon the harpies could use in war that could make them useful, without them having to drop filth.
