They changed stuff from the novels (again?). That place is supposed to look like a modern storage facility from outside. The inside is supposed to look like a high tech sci fi facility with glowing lights (lines?) on the walls where the power runs through, not look like a dungeon with sparkly stars on the ground making up the wall. This scene was supposed to give Souma his first impression of modern Earth in that world hence "Overscience". They got the LCD imagery quite right though.
